The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan

I used to dislike Christmas. As a child we had to visit the entire family and therefore Christmas were three days filled with obligations, being nice and behaving. After those three days of eating and being around dogs and trees (hi allergies) I always got sick. So, Christmas wasn't the most joyful time of the year. Slowly that's changing. Christmas is a lot calmer now and is a lot more about spending time with family. And therefore I now really enjoy reading Christmas books too.
I first watched the tv series on Netflix, then I read the first book and now it was time to dive into the second book. The book takes place one year later, around Christmas again, and a lot has happened. That means that in the beginning we mostly have to catch up with everything we missed. And we mostly have to understand why Lily has lost her Christmas cheer. And even though the book isn't too long, that totally works.
However, the story becomes more fun when Dash understands that he has to do something to remind Lily of her Christmas cheer. Once more Dash is taking Lily on a trip through town and this time all of the spots and tasks are connected to the challenges in the first book. And, in return, Lily surprises Dash with some memories and a trip down memory lane and through New York. I do think the story misses a point and yet it's quite entertaining.
That's mostly because it's nice to see Dash and Lily being in this phase of their relationship. Usually we only read until the happily ever after and then we leave our characters alone with their perfect love. In this case we reconnect and we see that love is not easy, that it takes time, energy and communication. Lily and Dash have lost each other a little and therefore, even though the true point misses, it feels like we're witnessing them falling in love all over again.
