The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
3.75
Overall rating: 3.75
Idk how to feel about this finale.... It was great but it didn't hit as much as the first 2 books tbh, however I did enjoy seeing all the "good characters" get their happy ending.
I'm not really sure what to say for this review.... Ig I'll start with what I felt like was lacking. I felt like there were quite a few plot holes in this story. Cardan's mom, Jude's mom, Taryn's reintroduction to the court, and Jude's revenge. (I suppose you can ignore the revenge part considering she either killed her bully or asserted dominance over them... idk) I just felt like they were mentioned probably once and then BLOOP, it's gone. How did Cardan's mom know Jude's mom? Why does Cardan's mom stay around court when it's clear missy isn't trustworthy? Why didn't Taryn suffer ANY FUCKING CONSEQUENCES? GIRL BETRAYED HER SISTER AND MURDERED HER HUSBAND, WHO MIGHT I SAY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CARDANS BEST FRIEND?!?! Like bro...
The ending was also very anti-climatic. I felt like nobody got the justice they deserved in this book... Especially when it came to Nicasia and Madoc... LIKE EXCUSE ME JUDE ONE OF THEM LITERALLY TORTURED YOU FOR MONTHS AND THE OTHER FUCKING STABBED YOU AND KILLED UR PARENTS.... BRO WHAT?! Honestly ..... Jude better than me cuz imo... I just wouldn't take that. Prime example of why I'm not a monarch ig lol.
However, I did still enjoy the overall plot of the book, while dragging a bit at times, it was pretty engaging. Not to mention finally getting some healthy depictions of Cardan and Jude. How they finally realize that they love one another is soooo cute and I like how they both dream of happiness at each others side, especially after all they've been through. I loved seeing Cardan step up and become King as well. I'm glad he went from being a drunken asshole to a sober one LMAO. Now he can be a good sassy wife for Jude (yes, I said wife.... Jude's obviously the one in charge in that relationship).
Overall, while not the best ending for a trilogy, I had fun reading it and can't wait to start the side story with Oak and seeing him as a lil grown up.
P.s. DISRESPECTFULLY that ending fight scene can kick mfing rocks.... I wanted death and destruction (ik this is YA fantasy and not adult but a girl can dream... and if Sabaa Tahir can do it so can others.)
