I read this book as part of a self-imposed challenge to read all the books that became Alfred Hitchcock movies. This one was a real challenge - I found the plot to be unnecessarily convoluted with a lot of characters that blended together, perhaps because I kept falling asleep as I read it. I watched the Hitchcock movie afterwards - they changed the plot so much that I am not sure they really had to credit the book, but even so it wasn’t much better.
