This was a sweet book to read. The writing is strong on technical grounds, but I found the world-building and characters in this one lacked depth. Unfortunately, the poor people in this narrative essentially get the short end of the stick, especially Elena. However, I must add that this was one of the most inspiring stories I've ever read. Which is not generally my go-to trope because I think it is incredibly inconceivable, but it was still a charming story. I appreciate that the author provided us with both Tynan and Elena's respective points of view on the circumstances at hand. Otherwise, I doubt you would comprehend why Tynan is being so remote and menacing; therefore, I think it was absolutely crucial to understand his background and inner thoughts. This was a short and beautiful story with a satisfying conclusion. To anyone searching for a short introduction to the fantasy romance genre, I would highly recommend it. However, as someone who reads a lot of the genre, it did feel somewhat lacking in a number of areas.
