The Animal Dialogues: Uncommon Encounters in the Wild by Craig Childs

3.0

Beautifully written and I learned a ton of interesting things about so many different animals.

I will say I'm not a fan of how Childs casually describes multiple encounters where he disturbs or interacts with wild animals for his own enjoyment (chasing porcupines to laugh at how they look when they run stands out). He never seems to consider the fact that he's causing these animals to feel unnecessary fear or psychological disturbance. These instances are especially off-putting since he seems to have respect for animals and nature in general. I wanted to give this 4 stars, but I feel like I'd be endorsing interfering with wild animals for no good reason, and that doesn't sit well with me.
