Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Oof. This book hit me HARD. It’s dark, so keep that in mind, and deals with very real issues of addiction and the effects on family, friends, and the protagonists own identity. About halfway through it starts to get really intense and I considered putting it down but I wanted to finish it for the sake of finishing it. I’m glad I read it, but it was not an enjoyable experience towards the end (nor it should be). It’s raw, it’s emotional, and it will make you feel both drained and overwhelmed, empty and overflowing. It’s an incredible effective piece of literature but be warned: think twice before you read it. Then think again.
