Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

3.0

**Slight spoilers**

I don't want my 3 stars to prevent anyone from reading this book so I need to clarify that it really is good. Even though I'd recommend it bc R.F. Kuang is my favorite author and I went to her book talk for this book, it just wasn't my kind of book. I understand that the narrator is supposed to be an ass but it's very difficult to like her and this made the book a little hard for me to enjoy. I was desperate to get out of June's head. Many are complaining that Kuang wrote a lot of herself into the story which I understand but I think that people are assuming that everything either June or Athena says is what Kuang believes, which is not true at all. The ending also left me feeling disappointed. I turned the last page and said out loud" That's it?" I guess the last lines are supposed to show that since June is privileged she can always win back her popularity or maybe it's just to show how crazy she is, I don't know, I'm just a reader. Overall the book was thought provoking (At least for me) and is definitely making me question if I really want to work in publishing
