Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio

4.0

Very strong start of the story, I really enjoyed it. Hadrian is such a fascinating character, I appreciate how relatable he is, he's not perfect and definitely makes his share of mistakes, but he learns and grows from them. The cielcin aliens are also pretty cool. The world is very complex and it feels like a very ambitious plot. The writing style is solid but I expect it gets better further into the series. It's hard not to compare this with Dune, there are a lot of similarities: the houses, resource domination, medieval style weapons, fighting style etc. Although I like the story a lot, in my opinion Dune is still the superior book for the moment, but not by much. I'm already committed to finish this entire series. 4.25*
