this book is fairly dark so i want to give a content warning for self-harm and suicide; as well as graphic descriptions of atomic warfare.
this book was a very interesting listen. super fast paced, didn’t want to put it down. it brought up a lot of interesting ethics and thought provoking problem solving on the readers end, as you try to piece how it could end together.
there were only a few things i had problems with. i wish i had felt more convinced by some of the relationships in this story. i also didn’t like that we didn’t get a full description of Helena’s appearance until the very end of the story, it was a small detail but it felt strange to leave it out until then.
Barry is also a cop, which in it of itself is fine, there is plenty of media about law enforcement that i enjoy (b99 anyone?). but it was hard for me to listen to a few moments where he was very comfortable with the idea of just pulling out his gun and using it to fix a situation, or getting out of problems (that aren’t work related) because he can just say “i’m NYPD”. there was just some abuse of power there with him and his job. i personally could have done without those moments.
