A Winter Haunting by Dan Simmons

5.0

I'm impressed again by Dan Simmons. This sequel lived up to the original and then some. Simmons continued with great depth of characters and solid intrigue throughout. In this one we catch up with Dale some forty years after the events of that fateful summer of his youth as he returns to Elm Haven to write a book. Dale is trying to fight demons in this one both internally and out. The same fine line between mystery, horror, and suspense continues to exist in this one and Simmons really keeps you turning page after page. It's weird to see Dale continue to come to age in this one, even in his 50s, as he comes to terms with his past. Again, if you're even remotely a fan of the coming of age type suspense/horror novels of Stephen King, you need to check out Dan Simmons novels of the same ilk, you won't be disappointed.
