The Counselors by Jessica Goodman
2.0

Although I love the setting of a summer camp (very Parent Trap), and especially a murder mystery at a summer camp, this book just fell flat for me.

I liked the setting of a camp in Vermont. I liked the dichotomy of the townies and the rich city kids. Those were the only two things I liked.

A supposedly Three Musketeers-esque friend group but we only get info on main character Goldie and Ava. Imogen is just there as a side character, and she does nothing for the plot. It might as well have just been Goldie and Ava.

The dual timeline was intriguing at first but then once we got past the car accident it was just unnecessary.

Was super tired of hearing about Heller. Could picture all of these guys from Roxwood wearing head to toe camo with a mouthful of chewing tobacco. Uninspiring to say the least.

Then the reveal with Stu and Mellie was so cheesy with the “we love you but we love the camp more” and “we did it for the camp”. Ick. Like if the announcers from Pitch Perfect killed someone. It was just odd. Kind of made more sense when it was Meg as the prime suspect.
