James Herriot's Cat Stories by James Herriot
4.0
I rarely go near books about animals. Not because I don't like animals, heck no! In fact, I am occasionally (jokingly I hope) called a crazy cat lady. No, the reason I stay far, far away from books about animals is this: I cannot deal with animal death.
No, seriously. Kill off the main (humanoid) character? I'll cry and whine, but I'll still love the book. Kill off an animal, I check out. Game over.
So a collection of real life stories from a vet made me extremely nervous. But I was curious so I did it.
And there are some sad parts, but I found myself still enjoying the stories. It's clear that while James Herriot has a more solid stomach than I do, he was still clearly operating with the same amount of love for cats that I feel and it made the stories really worth it.
