Zero Year--Secret City by Scott Snyder

5.0

A reinvention of Batman's origins, heavily reminiscent (but not identical) to Frank Miller's.

What surprised me the most here is the inversion of Batman's role: he appears at a time of crisis when the Bat-villain would exist with or without him, and the results are... still debatable, but it's Batman, you know?

As far as origin stories go, this one is one of the most entertaining ones I've come across. Leave your reserves for another moment, the story works fine for what it's trying to be.
