 Jemisin has wrought a deeply complex and fascinating world: fantastical enough to spark my curiosity, but also terrifyingly realistic at times. Her characters are multifaceted, mysterious, fiery, and constantly faced with impossible choices. Devouring Jemisin’s carefully laid trail of crumbs to finally piece together the full picture of these characters was as satisfying as it was heartbreaking. After finishing this, all I could do was flip back to the first page and start it again.
