Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews
3.0

Nothing like an old school gothic horror cult classic to make you question your reading choices! The horror comes from taboo snd uncomfortable subjects; child abuse, rape, incest, religious extremism, and parental neglect. This book tugs at your heart but also makes you question why you picked it up in the first place.

Written from the perspective of the eldest daughter in the family, it showcases children left having to deal with adult problems and quandaries about the world, such as figuring out love, desire, puberty, family, trust, and hate.

The author must have been a fan of Sigmund Freud to write something like this. Y’all who read it as kids/young adults, are you okay????
