Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley
by Peter Guralnick
The author really captured the excitement of that time of change when Elvis was breaking out. I always had this association of change with the 60's but not with the 50's. The story moves along well and is very detailed. It seems like just about anyone that had ever crossed paths with Elvis was interviewed at some point. There is a lot of detail in the book but it adds to the story. Elvis comes off as a very humble and generous person but also quite simple.
