Parwana: Recipes and Stories from an Afghan Kitchen
by Durkhanai Ayubi
I haven’t tried any of the recipes. My mark is purely for the writing introducing each section. The potted histories of early Afghanistan are a bit too potted to be clear. However once they start talking about the modern era they become much better. Reading the thoughts of an Afghanistan refugee gave a very different view of the country than comes from the news.
I did find the book in a charity shop and only paid a pound. If you pay full price then you are going to want to be interested in the recipes as well.
