Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
5.0

Becky Brandon does it again, and again and again! All of her quirky little fibs and outrageous price tags add up for the pretty little diva as she plans a humongous birthday bash for her beloved hubby Luke.

Yet this is not the only challenge that exists in Becky's life. Along with planning the party she is also trying to hound down a house, finagle with her career in a dyeing economy, raise a rebellious ( and somewhat spoiled) daughter, all while avoiding her favorite pass time; shopping. All in all, this book depicts yet another dangerous venture for Becky Bloomwood.

Let me tell you that I love these books. Often in todays world things are dark and unpleasant. Books revolve around the world of the mythical and we repeatedly get sucked into novels about vampires and werewolves ( none of which are very pleasant or happy) I think it is great that books like the Mini Shopaholic still exist out there in the literary world.

Becky has me laughing throughout the entire piece, and as her frauds and fibs get more outlandish you can't help but enjoy the ride. Becky will stop at nothing to insure that her husband has a happy birthday (even if this means lieing about a boob job, shamelessly redirecting her husbands schedule, and bartering on the internet) and as you read this book you want her to succeed.

The thing is we could all learn a thing or two from Becky, at least when it comes to perseverance. This girl is the bomb.

The book is very eloquently written and incredibly comic. Sophie Kinsella is an expert in her trade and always manages to have her readers hanging off of every word. I also find myself devoted to all of the characters in this novel ( whether it is Becky, Janice, or even baby Minnie) all the characters shine with their own light and independence.

The only character that I felt was lacking in this novel was Luke. I love Luke in all the previous novels but at the same time he just provided background noise in this novel. We see him at the party and he is overjoyed and then we see him in the beginning stressed and aggravated. Yet I do not think that we have enough moments in between him and Becky.

I also would have loved to see more interaction in between Jesse and Becky because I love their dynamic as sisters.

This however is my only complaint about this novel. I would suggest it to anyone who just wants to relax and have a good time. I cannot thank Kinsella enough for bringing a bit of light into a sometimes mundane and hard to stomach college existence. Every one needs some sunshine and I can thank Becky for being that brief bit of sunshine for me :)

Thank you and many Blessings :)
