Un long dimanche de fiançailles by Sébastien Japrisot

4.0

Oh man! Oh man! I don't even really know where to start on this. With the synopsis, yes that is what I will do:
We follow a young woman called Mathilde and her fiance went to WW1, and was sentenced to death, along with 5 other soldiers, for auto-mutilation. However, Mathilde doesn't accept that her lover is dead, and keeps on looking either for him, or for a place where he could be buried. That is the basic premise of this book.

My mom read this last week, and she pushed it into my hands when she was done. I started reading it, but then I paused for 2 days because I wasn't in the mood for a war story, but when I picked it back up, I flew through it! I really enjoyed this book. There were moments where it was a little slow, and where I was confused about some characters, but the story in and of itself is beautiful and amazing. I definitely recommend it. The title of the book and the movie in English are "A Very Long Engagement" =]
