A Heart Like Home by Christine Nolfi

5.0

If you haven’t read one of Christine Nolfi’s books, they are always full of heart, and I love how they are evolving over time. A Heart Like Home is her newest, and it addresses foster care.

About the book: “Finding family is a journey of love, risk, secrets, and healing in a powerful novel by the bestselling author of A Brighter Flame, The Passing Storm, and The Road She Left Behind.”

Nova was adopted as a child, and as an adult, she’s asked to foster two children. Nova has a lot of love to give because of her past experience and how healing her adoptive parents had been for her. She fosters nine-year-old Henry, and his seven-year-old sister, Bella.

The children have been living in an abusive household when they come to Nova. Henry is acting out, while Bella is more timid and fearful. It takes time for Nova to connect with the children, but with care and persistence, it happens. She also becomes their best advocate, fiercely so.

Christine Nolfi handles the topics of foster care and adoption with care. A Heart Like Home is a truly heartwarming and poignant story and one that will stay with me a long time. My mom is reading it now and can hardly put it down.

I received a gifted copy of the book.
