I was super disappointed by Brynn's mother being a villain, especially since the novel is set in a male-centric setting, and Brynn's mother is a powerful, senior female. Painting her as an evil villain is lazy and anti-woman.
I thought the plot was slow and the characters and their relationships weren't well-developed. I got a bit bored by the book, especially when it kept repeating the same political concerns over and over throughout the book, without developing at all.
