Kramer vs. Kramer
by Avery Corman
I knew this book by it's movie-version reputation, and it wasn't what i expected. More about a father's love for a son and trying to make life work than about legal systems and mental illness.
As a father's "growing up", it was moving.
As a legal thriller... it really wasn't. That didn't play as big a part in the book as I had been lead to believe. And it was such a different age that my modern self had a hard time entering the tension of it: would a court even consider full custody to a parent who had showed zero interest until that moment? Today, visitation rights would come first, then shared custody, so it seemed far-fetched, even if it was the way things were.
It was a short and easy read, and you did cheer for their little family for happiness and success. Heartwarming.
