Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao

I think this may be one of the best books I’ve read all year!!

On the surface it’s a Russia inspired fantasy in which you follow an ex-princess, with special powers illegal in her country, on her revenge quest to find the man who killed her father. It’s that, yes, but it’s so much more. It’s about family and friendships, overcoming trauma and learning to believe in yourself. It shows the harsh realities of human trafficking in a fantastical way that doesn’t take away from the severity of the topic.

The writing completely sucked me in and I found myself staying up wayyyy too late telling myself “just one more chapter” until it was 3am and I was falling asleep while reading. I highly recommend reading this book if you liked Six of Crows or Descendant of the Crane!
