The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

5.0

This book made me FEEL so much. I would have never chosen this book for myself - I usually stick to fantasy and rare read anything that could be described as historical fiction. The writing is captivating and it would take a second for me to get back to real life each time I had to put the book down. It brought this hard world to life. I need to go hydrated from how much I’ve cried.

On a more rational note: this book also made me THINK. There’s still so much that is wrong in the world in terms of how workers are treated and how children are educated. Many people would say “the good old days” as if hard times like these didn’t happen to Americans if they only worked hard enough. Everyone needs help sometimes and it is so important to help eachother. The people in these communities has so little, but still helped when they could and looked upon eachother as fellow human beings. The love goes hand in hand with the pain in these pages.
