Island of the Blue Dolphins
by Scott O'Dell
Stories about kids living on their own is right up my alley, and I'm very sad that this was absent from my library during my childhood. Just like My Side of the Mountain and Julie of the Wolves, this is a story about a girl surviving on her own for years on end. I loved the writing and first person narrative, which perfectly suited the story. The writing was descriptive but simplistic, too and very straight forward. It was easy to relax while reading about Karana's methods for hunting or training birds. A little melancholy, but a great book for anyone who likes adventure and a little solitude.
