Edit: against my better judgement a day later i found myself finishing this .. my opinions didn't really change honestly , i didn't hate the characters and i liked the concepts of the book overall , i just think it was really poorly written and the pacing wasn't great still.
got 18 chapters deep out of 37 before deciding to drop this one
i wanted to like it but i just don't think its well writen. it has ok concepts with how species and factions work , but for a romance novel its just bad. the book starts with the male lead breaking in and nabbing the female lead and her daughter so is for whatever reason super ok with the whole thing vs her mother reasons which are bearly explained by the point i'm at. Then theres a forced marriage between them after all of a couple hours of that for 'plot reasons' , the female lead tries for the whole resistance thing but in the end its more laughable than anything and in terms of actual romance all it really takes is a kiss here or there of him trying to shut that up and they bone , pretty much zero foreplay and the scenes aren't particularly steamy.
the pacing is frankly a mess as well, you go from X happens in a span of hours/days to suddenly its weeks later and everything good , but wait why are we still in X location because reasons before it implied that wasn't the priority. .. then after a scene or 2 another subpar 'romance' scene and another gap in time happens n its at this point i decided its just not worth reading after some weirdly detailed yet not at all car ride and action scene.
