Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry

3.0

I'm swinging between a 3.5 and a 4 for this read. McGarry has always been a solid 4 for me, but this one is causing some conflicting feelings.

Firstly, the story took me a little while to get into, it felt a little slow, and there were a lot of characters introduced in a short space of time. I found it difficult to get absorbed in the story initially, but it wasn't much of a problem from the 30% mark.

Now, my major issue. I know it's fiction, I know it's about a bike club and all, but it's so damn sexist. Particularly in the first half of the book. As much as I had to bite my tongue, so to speak, when I was reading this to get to the end of the story, there were a couple of times I really wanted to put this book down because that kind of thing just gets me all riled up.

I persevered though, and I'm glad I did. From 60% I couldn't put this book down, I raced through the end of it at 1 in the morning, and I definitely felt swoons for the romance. McGarry is Queen of Swoons. It's for this reason I want to give it a 4. However, if I'm comparing it to my other 4 star McGarry reads, I feel like I need to knock it down for all that male, macho, no women allowed mumbo jumbo. Sure, it could be realistic to how these clubs work, but it makes my blood boil and I can't ignore that.

I have other books in the Pushing the Limits series to read, and I'll probably get to those before I read any more in the Thunder Road series. As much as these series' are beginning to feel formulaic (because let's be real, they kind of are), they're also very addictive. I just don't know if I can stomach more stories of males who put the club before 'their old ladies'. Hmm..
