Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica

3.0

Meh.

The writing is simplistic. I am also a teacher like the ones in the book; one of my students could've easily written this. The sentences are short and choppy, not a compound sentence in sight. The author repeats herself over and over about the same things throughout the book, even up until the end. I caught myself saying several times, "Yeah! We know! You've already told us that!" She also waits until the end of the book to give us more in-depth descriptions of people and houses and such, and I can't understand why. At that point, the reader has already stopped reading or made up something in their head for the entirety of the book, and it's pointless.

I'm not sure how Mary Kubica has so many books on the market with a freshman in high school creative writing club level of writing.

There are some good plot twists throughout that I didn't see coming, which was unexpected for this level of writing but appreciated nonetheless. I'm not going to say don't read it, but I will say save your money and get it from a library or borrow from a friend who was more optimistic when they read the synopsis.
