44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith

... ... I don’t even know what to say about this book. I didn’t know it was originally written as a newspaper serial, but once I found out I realized that probably contributed to my dislike. Then again, I don’t necessarily think the writing would have improved had the goal been a novel.

The book is about nothing, which is fine, but the nothing in this book isn’t interesting enough to make up for the painful dialogue, inconsistency with point of view, and frequent use of unnecessary repetition (saying the same thing in five different ways/sentences for no discernible reason without creativity).

Do not recommend.
