Mrs. S by K. Patrick

3.0

I’ve had Mrs. S on my radar for a while now. I can’t remember where I first heard about it, though I feel like it was either through @jackbenedwards or @lesbrarycard. Mrs. S is about a woman who takes a job as the matron at an all-girls boarding school and begins to develop romantic feelings for the headmaster’s wife.

The writing style is very cool and inventive while also being indicative of the “sad girl literary fiction” subgenre that I’ve come to love. Sadly, I didn’t love Mrs. S as much as I was hoping I would. It was just incredibly slow and I got a little bored.

I would still 100% recommend this book to a particular group of people even though it was a 3-star read* for me.

*My 3-star ratings are not bad. It normally just means the book is not a new favorite for me. I’ll still recommend it because it was a fine enough book, just wasn’t that special in my eyes.
