A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams

4.0

3.5 stars. Admittedly a guilty pleasure read. Perfect fluff for the beach or pool in that it's light and holds your attention.

Lily could be grating at times, playing the martyr, and Nick's actions throughout the novel - which he attributes to 'honor' - were likewise eye-roll inducing. Epilogue was a bit too pat for me. I don't mind that they ended up together but the writing tuned really schmaltzy- not that the rest of the book was highbrow in any way - but the pacing and plot were structured enough. The ending just dripped with corniness - 'oh, honorable Nick goes off to fight in the war even though he doesn't have to and yet is safe and comes home to me as I have my third child' (said in a Scarlett O'Hara voice) Anyway, if you want something light, easy, and fun to read while having a cocktail by the pool then this is a good pick.
