10 Marchfield Square

My impression before reading this, was that it would feature an old lady teaming up with two of her tennants to solve the murder of another tennant, and that the murderer would be found among other tennants in the building. That was not the case. The old lady was barely present, except to set the two main characters on their quest, and then to wrap it up, and aside from that, warned the MCs away from accusing one of her tennants.
I thought the two main characters, Audrey and Lewis were very well written, and at times I felt almost uncomfortable with the similarities between myself and Lewis. They felt quite real, and their chemistry was very interesting.
However, I did not enjoy the plot of the book very much. I felt I barely got to know the other tennants, or suspects for that matter, and their connections to each other felt flimsy. At one point, the MCs were talking about how a certain suspect was involved, and I completely forgot that they’d already talked to him, so much so that as I write this, I do not remember that happening at all? Towards the end, an accused suspect mentions that he got some information from another suspect, and once again, I could not remember how on earth they were connected, and there was nothing in the text to remind me.
I was quite disappointed in this. There are comparisons to Only Murders in the Building, which is one of my favorite shows, but aside from tennants investigating another tennant’s death, the comparison ends there.
However, it seems like this was written with the potential for a series. I hope that future entries will contain more of Celeste, and will perhaps explain the piece of evidence found at the first crime scene, that was never explained. Despite my negative review, I would be interested in seeing Audrey and Lewis again.
