What a beautiful look at how an ordinary man (with a not so ordinary upbringing) found an empathy and care for others within himself that people often lack and used it to do something even fewer actually do - help those in need even despite the discomfort it may cause you. I had truly no prior knowledge of the Magdalen laundries in Ireland prior to reading this - what a dehumanizing and devastating thing for those women and children to have experienced at the hands of the Catholic Church and the Irish state. The writing style was elegant and captivating, will absolutely be reading more from Claire Keegan.
