The Charmed Children of Rookskill Castle by Janet Fox
3.0
Spooky... not one of those books I should read at night if I want to fall asleep without jumping at small noises! I really enjoyed it though... the atmosphere was creepy without being dark, I liked the characters, and the WWII setting was brilliant as was the use of the chatelaine, something I'd never heard of.
It could have benefited from being slightly shorter, I think. 50 fewer pages would have kept the suspense strong. And the end was a little anticlimactic... they defeat the magical problem but then have to deal with a more mundane one that just doesn't feel as dangerous. So I would reorganize and trim a little if it were MY book, but this one was still fun. Would recommend for mature tweens or teens... it's pretty spooky for kids.
