A truly excellent read, maybe my favourite sci-fi novel. I just love Vinge’s universe from this book as well as in A Fire Upon the Deep. I actually preferred A Deepness in the Sky, I thought it was more balanced among the storylines.

The scope of the story is just fantastic, and Vinge manages to make it a page turner. The prose is excellent and the characters well thought out, with interesting twists and turns along the way.

It’s one of the few novels that manages to be extremely creative, with some really original concepts, and also emotionally engaging. You’ll come to care about some characters deeply, and you’ll be devastated when they’re hurt, and you’ll be overjoyed when good things happen to them.

A bit long but never boring. I highly recommend it to any science fiction fan.
