Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

4.0

Spin the Dawn is about a seamstress who disguises herself as her brother, to follow her dream of becoming the imperial tailor. The first part of this fantasy novel starts strong by focusing on this dream despite her difficult circumstances, and then turns into a magical quest. The protagonist is determined though her focus shifts as the story turns into a slow-burn romance. The action is fine, not particularly tense, but the magic is unique, with riveting world building and stunning imagery.
