Minor Detail by Adania Shibli

4.0

Deeply haunting, “The Minor Detail” is the story of the life of Palestinians under Israeli occupation, set across two time periods.

The first story is set one year after the Nakba which caused the displacement of 7,00,000 Palestinians. It talks about a Bedouin girl who is gang raped and killed by Israeli soldiers. The second is the story of a Palestinian woman in present day. She is obsessed with the case of the Bedouin girl because of a minor detail in a news story that piques her interest.

I decided to pick this book up because “Frankfurt Book Fair” had cancelled an event of the author, Adania Shibli in the wake of the genocide unravelling in Palesntine. This act of reducing Palestinian voices and suffering into ‘minor details’ in history with propaganda and power is exactly the focus of her work.

A must read!
