Shallow River by H.D. Carlton

I’m still not really sure how I felt about this book. On one hand, I read it from start to finish. On the other, I was complaining the entire time until about 60% in.

I really don’t like to give spoilers, so I’ll just say that things dragged for a long time. I was skimming whole chapters at some points. When things finally took a turn, the reasoning was … interesting. But from then on, I enjoyed the book a lot more.

HD Carlton’s writing is always great. It doesn’t shy away from the fucked up, and this story is no different. I am glad I decided to see this one through, but it was touch and go.
