The Blue Bistro is my first Elin Hilderbrand book. It is also the first book I've read that goes quite deep into the restaurant business. I definitely enjoyed it, but I didn't love it. I thought Nantucket was beautiful, but I did 't quite fall in love with the place. (Then again I've never been much of a beach person.) I am giving this 4 stars anyway because I do think this is still a good read. I can definitely see a lot of people enjoying this book. I just made the mistake of reading it during the cold season. It was a little off - cold weather outside, but reading about a warm, sunny summer. Of course that has nothing to do with the book and more with my wrong timing. Ha!
Anyway, all that aside, this book was perfectly casual in a good way. It was such a light and easy read that despite knowing what you know about Fiona, you almost forget that the story couldn't possibly end in a good way. It's all good, until it isn't. And that final blow just hit really hard. I almost cried.
The characters in this book were all very enjoyable. Each one of them had such distinct personalities, and although there were plenty of supporting characters, it didn't feel too crowded. They all had their own purpose in the story. I don't want to go into each of them, because it would take a while to finish. But I was really pleased with how the author developed all the characters.
This book has been sitting on my shelf for a long time, and I am glad I finally picked it up. This would be great to read during the summer.
