تأمَّل يومًا بعد يوم: ٢٥ درسًا للعيش بوعي كامل by Christophe André

2.0

Very poorly written, over-simplified and condescending, as if the author is talking to a group of young children that can’t understand basic concepts of mindfulness, such as “living in the present.” What groundbreaking advice! (That's me being sarcastic).

Disclaimer: I read the English translation, so it's very possible that the original French is, perhaps, much better.

I think this was falsely advertised as something that delves into the lessons that timeless pieces of art can teach us about perception. I was expecting in-depth analyses of famous paintings, a kind of crash-course on art history and how valuable these pieces are to us even today, for what they try to reveal to us. Instead, this book is a rather mediocre advertisement for meditation. I believe your time would be better spent reading How to do Nothing by Jenny Odell, a recent favourite of mine. I also think John Berger’s Ways of Seeing might be more impactful, though I’ve yet to read it.

This book reads like a glorified blog post. There's nothing new here.
