Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger

5.0

Just when I think I will never find another book that speaks to me on a deeper level, that articulates all my deepest thoughts and concerns, I stumble upon this miraculous little book!

When I was a teenager, my initial impression of "Franny and Zooey" was that it was a pale imitation of "the Catcher in the Rye". The same sort of rantiness about the phonies, the clever banter, the distinctive voices of the protagonists, it was all too similar! I gave up on it about 40 pages in. Were it not for the testimony of the author Francisco X. Stork (one of my favourite YA authors), who cited the book as the most influential novel in his life, I never would have given it another chance.
