The Queen & the Homo Jock King by TJ Klune

5.0

Sanford "Sandy" Stewart is the Queen (capital Q) when he performs as Helena Handbasket. She works a room and owns it; nothing can throw her off her game....except for that asshole Darren Mayne. He treated Sandy like garbage years ago and so Sandy has held that grudge to protect himself all this time. Despite the fact that Darren has never missed a single one of Helena's shows.
When chaos throws them together in an ill-advised fake dating scheme to help save the club Jack It from closure via a plea to Andrew Taylor (Darren's absent father (also Sandy's best friend's fiancé Vince's dad)), the pair find themselves feeling like fake the relationship is a lot more real.

This has been the series I've least looked forward to while reading the whole of Klune's backlog in the past few years. I sort of regret taking so long. While this will never be my FAVORITE series of his and it is entirely beyond belief with the over-the-top comedy, there still is, deep down, that incredible charm that Klune pumps into all of his characters.

4.5/5 rounded up.
