Danny, a naive infantryman, is assigned to be cannon fodder for one of the monsters that roam in post-apocalyptic America, except the monster in question (Wyn) finds him interesting enough that he takes him as a travel companion. Eventually, it is revealed that Wyn is protecting humanity by hunting down a certain parasitic monster species. Oh also, apparently monsters  imprint, which is a little strange given the age difference of a 10000 year old monster romantically involved with a 23 year old human. As for the smut, Wyn has vaguely human genitalia with both female and male characteristics, so some of the sex scenes are pretty creative. For the most part, though, there's not much plot or character development, the whole second half of the book is really just a collaboration of various sex positions, the evil military continues to be evil, but at least Wyn and Danny have a healthy sex life in the apocalypse, which I guess is about as much as one can hope for.

The fact that Danny is going to age and die while the monster is functionally immortal was never addressed.

Danny was relatable in the first half of the book, but the entire second half was pretty much just him throwing himself into dangerous situations like an utter moron and needing to be rescued.
