The Reader by Bernhard Schlink

A classic story that goes beyond comprehension. Not just another story depicting the horrors of WOII, but even more about love and age, about what it means to betray, and to respect someones decisions - or not, and to intervene because you can and it seems the better choice. But mostly: what it means to be guilty and how we should "judge" the one who takes the blame.
