One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London
3.0
3.5 — purely because this book is addictively readable.
As someone who was very, extremely, slowly converted to The Bachelor, I promise you will enjoy reading this book even if you don’t watch any of BachelorNation shows.
I do wish that some of Bea’s inner dialogue didn’t run around in circles, like I know that body image is not fixable in a day (I really super know this) so the problem creeping up consistently was realistic, but I swear I read the same lines over and over again.
I wish that Bea was not so hard for me to imagine, bc the author didn’t care to nail her down (although she detailed her clothes like **chef’s kiss**. Sometimes I felt like she was part of a man-hating club and I’m not about villianizing or infantilizing anyone.
But, like I said previously, this book is readable—especially as far as romance novels go, there is very little Hallmark cheesiness here (just reality TV show cheesiness). And oh-so inclusive! (Whaaaa?? Ya, it’s not actual BachelorNation, so they—the fake show—were able to make it better.)
Also, the side love story that happened via slack was almost more cute than the love story happening on Main Squeeze.
One last thing: Diet Culture is awful and we should work to take that industry down.
