Marketing Built by Love: A Human-Centered Foundation to Delight Your Customers, Increase Your Revenue, and Grow Your Business by Daniel Bussius

3.0

The premise behind this book is that marketing is primarily broken, and I agree. The author lays out a 10-step customer journey that helps you connect with the customers who love your brand. Underneath the practical information about this journey and examples of how to implement it is the idea that we focus first and foremost on our customers. That shouldn't be a revolutionary idea, but it is. In some ways, I feel it echoes Sarah Santacroce's message in "Marketing Like We're Human." This book certainly made me rethink my marketing and start to implement some of the suggestions from the book. I can see how using the author's approach will be a marketing system that keeps customers returning repeatedly. I appreciated the author's approach to understanding your ideal customers/target market. It was unique and addressed a number of nagging questions that were never addressed by others.

Obviously, I enjoyed the book, but there were a couple of things I found annoying with it, hence only 3-stars. First, using a CRM is a central theme of the book and a key piece of implementing the system. The author provides a link to a website page that is supposed to discuss CRMs and provide advice on selecting one. The link instead goes to a page that mentions CRM for two sentences and then is an advertisement for the book itself. Second, the author frequently mentions his free software for doing the exercises in the book and building your marketing system. The link provided takes to a page for the software, but the register link goes to a dead page. It seems like the book came out before the supporting resources were ready, which was a disappointing experience.
