Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
5.0
Two ways of summarising my experience with this book; warm soup & reality slap. When I first picked up this book, I was going through a burn out. In the first few chapters, Elizabeth Gilbert simply provided me a comforting hug by sharing about fear & anxiety. She later on also discusses about starting a new Creative life, breaking down negative concept of “without pain, there can be no success” as well as issuing overcoming failure & shame. It’s also very fascinating to read about how she portrays inspiration & ideas as little magic things that bump into you; her putting this concept in a whimsical sense has allowed me to visualise the scene & understand one my own way how missing an opportunity for a great idea don’t always have to be bad.
If I could say anything to Elizabeth Gilbert, I’d like to say thank you. In these recent years, I’ve been slowly learning to accept my own worth as a Creative & fighting through all the negative stereotypes that were passed down from my seniors & teaching figures. It has not been an easy journey but this book has granted me permission to keep living creatively & be happy doing so.
