Escape The Light
by A.R. Thomas
Read from bookstagram so you don't have to.
The book starts with an interesting premise of staying safe while being a girl on the run by being directly in the spotlight. The fmc develops an instaattraction to the mmc, who ends up being someone in a position who can get her out of said 'on the run' situation.
This book had quite a bit of melodrama in it I felt could have been left out.
I find myself able to accept certain tropes that are very typical if it aligns with the direction of the plot, however when things are thrown in just to add drama I find it lacking.
Some tropes in this book;
-Contractual relationship
-Instant attraction
-Girl on the run
-Fickle, over the top mmc, who is 13 years older so there is a significant power imbalance
-a scene where the mmc tries to make the fmc jealous by using another woman (again, this trope doesn't always trigger me, but in this instance seemed very random and out of place. What point did this serve? There was no reason to make the fmc jealous, as he was the one adamant about the one and done bs)
- denial of feelings
- god forbid we don't have miscommunications that lead to gross assumptions
Yes the fmc learns that she's wrong to assume things at the end, but there isnt really any character development here. Sure the mmc "cried" but we all know men can cry and still be lying lmaoo!!!
