Preppy: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater, Part Two by T.M. Frazier

5.0

This one was so sad and depressing.

It was still very good, but Preppy is back from his capture and torture and there’s A LOT of emotional healing that he’s going through. So he’s not his usual Preppy self for most of it (understandably). As hard as it was to watch, I thought it was realistic. Not only is he dealing with the trauma of his capture, but when he gets back literally everything has changed — King is engaged with 3 kids, Bear is engaged with a kid on the way, Grace is dead, his room has changed and all of his stuff has been donated. I mean, there isn’t a single thing that hasn’t been turned upside down for him. The poor guy. So his healing process was done well, but also so sad to watch.

I’m not sure what else to say about this one. It was really good, but it was also a huge emotional roller coaster. I’m happy that Preppy made it through the healing process and that Dre was just what he needed for that. My favorite parts were her following him around town to do his “favorite pastimes”, which mainly involved illegal activities like vandalism. Lol It was just the right kind of Preppy things that he needed to do to feel normal again.

I will say that the ending kind of seemed to come out of nowhere. The book basically could’ve wrapped up Preppy and Dre’s story, and if felt like it was doing just that. And then the ending just — BAM — came out of left field. It just felt like a random ending that allowed for the author to write another book. Not sure how I feel about this. It felt like an afterthought, but hey, it means I get to read more Preppy so should I be complaining? Lol The only possible tie in would be the weird events that happened at the hospital and possibly his brother Kevin. Maybe this has to do with his real dad? We will see…

I just hope we get more of the real Preppy in this next book. I need his inappropriate badassness back.
