The Great Godden by Meg Rosoff

3.0

This compelling contemporary coming-of-age story was a super fast read. I enjoyed the sarcastic, self-aware tone of the storytelling. It made the reading experience fun and enjoyable. However, the overlying theme of disillusionment was much darker than I expected and I wish the implications had been more explicitly discussed on the page.

Bullet review:
- Sarcastic MC
- Interesting characters
- Family dynamics
- Interpersonal drama
- Set during one summer
- Dark undertones
